Welcome! Here you can meet our team and learn more about everyone’s individual interests and projects.

Michelle O’Malley PhD
I am primarily a Sociolinguist and everything I teach and research focuses on the ideas of language/language variation and place as well as the fact that every form of language we use reveals aspects of our intersecting identities, our life experiences, and our connection to a place. Whether our language forms be socioeconomically linked, regionally linked, gendered, or chronologically categorized, they all tell the story of who we are and who we recognize, and who we do, or at least want to, connect with and understand. This is why language matters!

Hello! I have previously worked on a research project entitled “Why Does Language Matter?” I recognize the vital role that a language plays in shaping the social structure of a community or a society. It also helps us portray how we wish to be perceived by others.
